So what is the Omnigo 120?

It's a PDA (personal digital assistant) released in September of 1996. Like most PDAs of that era, its target audience were business and finance professionals on the go. The Omnigo was both unique and innovative for a number of reasons. It was one of few computer devices to use an 80186 CPU. It was also one of only a handful of portable devices to use GEOS as its operating system.

Here are the specs:

* 80186-compatible CPU
* 16 Mhz Processor
* GEOS 2.1 OS running over DOS 6.22
* 3MB ROM and 1MB RAM (upgradable using pcmcia slot)

Omnigo 120 offered the following advantages over the 100 model:

* Brighter LCD screen
* Longer battery life
* Pocket Quicken and Clip & Go client are installed in ROM

Special features:

* The keyboard can be folded back behind the screen turning the Omnigo into a writing tablet.
* The Graffiti handwriting recognition system allows input anywhere on the screen.
* Uses a special holographic LCD screen instead of backlighting resulting in relatively low power consumption.
* It eats Newtons for breakfast :)

  • I remember Beta Testing these for GeoWorks and HP with Byron and Steve.

    The good old days of computing..

    I still have several 100's, but when my 120 died it was impossible to replace..

    That's too cool. You'll still find me bringing my ogo120 with me on business trips, playing solitaire on the plane :) I have 6 or 7 100s and 3 120s.

  • First 8 seconds I cracked up laughing because it said 1MB of RAM :P

  • @Redgit232

    Yup. A let me tell you, it fills up quick! They fit quite a lot of stuff in ROM, though. GEOS was a great OS and really optimized the small memory size well.

  • i love it. where can i get one?

    The 100 model pops up often on ebay and sells for pretty cheap. 120s are a bit harder to come by, found mine on craigslist
