This is a video I created which splices the two premiere airings of the Little Lulu and Little Audrey cartoons, specifically 1943's "Eggs Don't Bounce" and 1948's "Butterscotch and Soda" which are in the public domain now.
At 4 1/2 minutes long and 23MB, this is sizable, so if people would like I can reduce the quality to make it smaller or something, but really, did not want to lose out on the QUALITY of these films.
Audrey was created because Marge who created Lulu would not sign over the rights of her character to the animators. So basically, she is an independent hero fighting the man like CM Punk.
I've been watching these and finding them very hilarious. The similarities are clear, in that disobedient little girl + dog + obese black housekeeper = success.
Note: This is only Audrey's first cartoon as a star, I'm aware she was part of the cast of 1947's "Santa's Surprise" and 1948's "Olive Oyl for President". I don't count them since they don't focus on her.
Watching these cartoons is actually kind of amazing and horrifying. Not for the racism, which is so retro it's hilarious at this point, but rather, the kind of things they put into these films with the musicals and imagery. You only see part of it here, and each has around a dozen other shorts.
Just imagine if you had a dream like that about candy, or the kind Lulu has in "Bout with a Trout". It's like so intense, I can't imagine them putting the kind of concepts children's animation today.
a good video to commemorate Youtube's going black
