@ronktgen "The best guitar player ever" What a huge overstatement Paul Gilbert, Matt Bellamy, Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix just to name a few are way better and have more songwriting skills. His singing isn't as good as you seem to think, nor his melodies. Not the best singer, or guitar player. Not saying he's bad but come on, be realistic, he's not the best anything.

@hyllaf In that case; sign me up for The X Factor and I'll get this fucker to number 1....the blind sheep buy anything Simon Cowell endorses these days. Just pop it up slightly and hey presto

Was this taken from the then Yahoo! live stream? :). Great stuff anyways, thanks for uploading, love this band and expect the full broadcasted songs from the Reading 2008 performance on my channel!.

See Sean is wearing his beret from the Holy Bible

This video has something for everyone! The more high-minded get Archives of Pain with all the Manics at the top of their musical game. For those at the shallower end of the pool, there's JDB at the height of his podginess and Nicky Wire in camouflage AS WELL AS a skirt. Couldn't ask for more...

lol at 00.40 ...WIRE!!!

The Manics have really improved live since they started using additional musicians. You can hear how sparse it sounds without the rhythm guitar here when James is doing the solo. I always thought their sound needed filling out, and it allows James more freedom to do the songs justice. I saw them the other week and they blew me away, so good.

@PantheonLincoln I'm going to be pedantic here. The 2004 version was James on his own playing an acoustic rendition, alas without the solo. The version you refer to was the 2005 version from the Past, Present and Future tour. I was fortunate enough to witness both twice.

You remember correctly. They changed it slightly in 2004, and James did the first verse and chorus on his own, with the band kicking in on the start of Verse 2. It sounded amazing.

Thanks for the video! I've always wanted to see how James manages the solo live. And he just does it, no problem. The best guitar player ever.
He's also the best singer ever. Wonder what that feels like?
