@yellowmetalcyborg Propane is more convenient. You light it and you good. Charcoal is messy and takes a while. I started using charcoal but now I burn waste oil.

Why would you use propane if charred wood is so much cheaper and it can reach the same temperatures? Is there something i'm missing?

for my crucible i use the cap from an oxygen bottle but i plugged the holes in the sides and attatched rings so i can pick it up with a pair of hooks

thats a pretty nice set up dude...I really like your furnace..the inner walls are rapped with a material that i cant identify...overall this unit is portable and very attractive.. how much metal roughly in average can you melt at one time, using the crucible you have in the video??
ballistic031983 1 year ago
@ballistic031983 Thank you ! It started off as a bbq grille that I bought at Wal Mart for about $30 then I bought refractory cement to line it. I used a 10" sonar tube (used for concrete) It weighs around 225 lbs. and works really well. I am running a 500,000 btu weed burner running propane at 2.5 psi The average melt time to pouring temperature is 30 - 35 minutes. Thanks for watching and if you or anyone has any questions please feel free to email me or leave me a comment. -Hank
