Campaign coordinator Jenny Leong asks the public hearings panel about how a Human Rights Act would impact people who are mentally ill and their human rights, on behalf of Amnesty supporter (question submitted at our public hearings blog at http://www.amnesty.org.au/yourhumanrights/comments/21253). Our question is responded to by a member of the panel.

check out the speaker at 1:10
she blinks then says "I'm not saying, it's perfect" then breaks into an involuntary embarassed smile. Classic sign of someone who is hiding something. I wonder what.
No, it's not perfect - it's systematic human rights abuse - slight difference.

AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL DOESN'T DO ANYTHING about this issue unlike AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL IRELAND who has made it a CAMPAIGN ISSUE - this is tokenism where's the action? Where are the petitions & research & and the endorsement of this issue as worthy for CAMPAIGNING?!?

To say people have "consent" over what drugs they take is ridiculous. If you're voluntaray/ involuntary patient, you don't have a choice about them. The speaker is clueless about the reality : "I'm not saying its perfect" - classic response The hospitals DON'T follow law ! The only thing this legislation is good for is when you sue them AFTER you're hospitalised. The person who raised this on your site asked a specific question about ABUSE ! Re-read and make it a CAMPAIGN ISSUE
AMNESTY AUST.
