Using a Blue Point GA317- installation of the valve spring retainer / keepers is as simple as one push of the tool.

  • The combustion chamber is pressurized using an air compressor and a cylinder leakdown tester kit. This allows the user to regulate the amount of pressure fed into the cylinder. The remover/installer tool can be purchased from your local Snap On Tools dealer or directly from their website.

  • hi buddy i know you use air to keep the valve up but do you need to keep toping the air up in the cyclinder? cos i have to do a valve stem oil seals on my car but i dont have acsess to a compresser so im going to use a shock pump wich can go to 280 psi but well im not sure if i need a hi pressure or just lots of air to keep the avale from droping???

  • As you pressurize the combustion chamber (roughly 100PSI), there will be normal pressure loss over short periods of time. The pressure that is lost will need to be replaced. Over the course of 1 cylinder, my compressor cycled a few times to keep up with the pressure loss. I'm not sure what a shock pump is capable of- but just keep this in mind that you have to be able to maintain pressure as you work on each cylinder.

  • The tool is only as good as the the person using it. I've used this countless times on Mitsubishi and Toyota heads without issue. Sorry for your troubles and difficulties with this job, but i still stand behind this tool 100%. There are 100's of video's on Youtube of the same type of tool being used on other cars. This specific tool part number is required as the centering pin in the installer is the correct size needed to do the job. Other similar tools i've found to be too big.

  • I don't know if you saw my video about how to remove the valve spring retainers with this tool, but i was very specific in it about how the other tools similar to this would not work. What i said about the tool and the person using it wasn't meant as a personal attack. I apologize for that. If you're not using the specific tool that i mentioned- then you should not have blamed the lack of success on this tool. I've tried several tools via trial and error before finding the correct tool

  • do you need this tool to remove as well? do you need this tool at all? is it mandatory? can i use just my hands or someother tool? but im primarily interested in how to remove? plaese help me with my build

  • Im bout to do my VSS and Lifters, I never been told of having a Air in the Chamber, Is it normal Air just going there from a Compressor? How is it attached

  • I need to change my valve springs on my mitsubishi 3000GT 24v. I bought a second cam for the street race and normal driving. How is your air hose attached? Is it just an air hose you put down with air and then they come up? I have not tried it before but would like. Would you explain to me where you buy the tool you use for valve springs and how you mount the air hose? Regards Tommy

  • sleepwalker..i removed the keepers with a gentle tap of a heavy hammer and installed them by pushing down real hard on the tool..i dont see how u could have scratched them...i checked all my valves after i did each one and none of them had the slightest scratch

  • this tool will save u hours of time, i just got through doing the vss on my 3000gt, the back of the head is the tuff one you have to remove the two brackets behind the head and its a pain in the rectum, and you also have to heeman the springs from the rear of the engine..im a small guy but i still could do it..i would probably be still on those valve if it wasnt for this tool

  • Yea, I noticed you installed it right, but others on youtube haven't. Watch their video and the stem is level with the retainer instead of sticking up about a quarter of a inch like you did. The installer I have does look too big, and their obviously not universal. My installer is silver and not black, got it from snap-on with no part number. I'm sure your right about the part number, but that wouldn't have anything to do with the person using it now would it.
