BROUGH'S Butchers in Ormskirk made mincemeat of the competition to win three top prizes.
The shop was judged the best in Britain for their traditional dry cure bacon, orchard pork loin and best-selling Italian style meatballs featuring a secret recipe sauce.
Mark Shepherd, the owner of the store in Burscough Street, has worked as a butcher since he was 11. He was taken on by Brough's when he was 16.
"The meatballs are our best seller," said Mark, 35, from Southport. "For some reason we can sell them all year round even in the summer.
"They are really good for kids they're not too spicy they're full of good quality meat and there's none of this processed stuff.
"We try to buy local produce as much as possible - the sauce is a bit of secret I can't tell you what's in that.
"I have been doing this for 19 years and I am very passionate about it. Butchering has changed over the years and we have changed with it.
"Now we sell about 70% of ready meals compared to 30% of fresh meat."
