I thought I might have a problem with this thing not pulling enough power to run the turn signals, but I didn't expect it to be dimmer than a regular 6 volt bulb. Turns out they're pushing 6-volt LEDs which are actually 12-volt LEDs that will work, (dimly) on a 6 volt system and charging more money for them. IT's a rip-off any way you look at it.

  • your regular bulb is 6v, your LED bulb is 12v

LED works better than incandescent bulbs

btw, such beautiful bug you have there

  • @marlonsroad Thank You. Yea, we love the bulb. And that was my point. Some guy on ebay was selling these as 6volt LED's and they're not. They'll light up a little, but not much, not even as much as a regular bulb. For the price I was paying for them, buying a bulb that doesn't work as well as a regular and inexpensive bulb is a waste. That was my point...

  • @rpeek got a question.. is it slower to turn on the engine with the 6v configuration or just a myth?

  • @marlonsroad Yes, it turns over slower with the 6 volt..

  • hi mate. can you tell me whats the gap in inches from your rear apron to the engine tin sheild ? just had a apron fitted and having trouble getting the exhaust on . i also had trouble getting engine back in.. i had to drop the body over the engine to get it back in.. hope you know what am talking about.regards.ps love the banjo play.

  • @eah321 I had trouble getting mine back in too, but I think that's pretty common. Which measurement do you need?

  • The LED light isnt as bright because LEDs shine in a single direction. I have LED brake lights on my 66 Beetle and they work GREAT. What you have to do, is get some fine grit sandpaper and scuff up the LEDs so they will diffuse light better.

If you'd like, I can make a video on mine.

  • Convert it to 12 volt.

  • LED lights can be brighter than incandescent if you buy brighter ones. They will run hotter and will require heatsinks attached, fans, and ventilation. I haven't ever seen a hotrod or vw bug tail light setup that puts out better light than the incandescent bulb so I pretty much pass on them when I see them for sale. Waste of money. The only way you're going to do well with them is probably to invent your own set up but make sure it isn't going to melt the tail light lenses.

  • You should have bought red LED´s fore your brakelight :) Much nicer - i converted all my bulbs into LED´s on my 93 Probe - very nice :)

  • @marlonsroad did you ever get these working as you wanted ? if not have a look at some of my videos of what we design and make, any shape, style or voltage can be easilly custom made and not expensive :)

  • thats a beautiful car. right on

  • @rpeek hi mate . i need the size of the gap from the rear apron where the rubber seal fits into - to the rear cover plate. the rubber seal goes across this gap. hope you can help. cheers. eddie.
