A cover by me of Tom Waits (perhaps on Diazepam) covering John Martyn further covering Sades' "Somebody Already Broke My Heart" (ok, a bit of a joke concept -inspired by fellow JM fan Johnni2bad !). Loose arrangement btway-so many liberties taken with timing and phrasing and arrangement. Listen to Sade herself for it done right! I think this is a great tune so I had a bash and an experiment with chord diagram sequencing/video editing. Tuning is BbEbBbBbFC -one tone down from JMs usual cfccgd. Can't recall Sades original key but maybe in this or maybe one tone up. Tune here is arranged in Bb Dorian. The chord diagrams are colour coded to spot the change easy. The scale chart shown assumes the tuning I used. Chords are shown with 6th (heavy) string lowest. Sort out picking variations using chords as base position and pick embellishments using the scale shown. Right hand picking is after JOhn Martyn style, backslaps on beats 2 and 4 liberally.

wicked m8, i think u've stumbled on something with all these crossovers! u really know ur shiznit music wise too. i love playin guitar but i wouldn't hav a frickin clue what chords i'm playin! u should make an album of this stuff
I only know half the time- on plenty of stuff I have no idea what I'm doing theory wise and just play. I would have to break some stuff down what I've layed-but then whats the point in that- Its the final sound that matters after all. Like I said -this was an experiment- for a different kind of instructional video-but no tab- theres just that anxiety of 3 different legal teams of those artists pursuing me at some point !!! (or they could sue each other and leave me out of the chain?) -ian
Tom Waits usually sounds like he's on Diazepam anyway :) This is brilliant. Sounds like Mr. McGeachy himself. You've captuted all the subtle nuances and given it a life all it's own. BRILLIANT my friend! cheer julie
Thanks for stopping by and 'listening and looking' at my experiment Julie! Your comments and kind words are always appreciated by me. What do you think of the idea btway-just timed chord blocks? -ian
I LOVE the timed chord blocks! Brilliant idea. You've integrated the whole process; sound and the visual picture of the chords themselves; it's especially helpful for us JM fans. I usually can't get past the tuning IF I get that far! And figuring out how to viideo all these chords can't be an easy thing! cheers julie
