@AtarashiNOh horns have been used by the sinicized hmong of sichuan. it is very possible that perhaps many generations ago, a shaman from this particular group of hmong people may have been trained by a shaman with sichuan origins and spread amongst this branch. also from what i know, "flower hmong" shaman nowadays do practice shamanism with horns. but to answer your question, shamanism differs among hmong people. we may never know unless we go back to china and ask.
@moobnaavtabdlub Was the ritual originally done with horns or did the Hmong that move to Laos and Thailand drop the tradition of having horns on the back of the head?
@muaspheeb the hmong religion is pretty much made up of three things: animism, the sacrificing of animals; shamanism, dealing with the spirit world; and ancestral worship, worshipping one's ancestors. hmong religion in a nutshell. i believe all three go hand in hand.
this is pretty sweet. the things on the back of his head are horns. i read it in a book once that some hmong people in china do these rituals with horns.
