I chose the tidal flow of the Thames for my project because I think it is a very effective metaphor for exploring the issues set out for the project, which concern " stillness, movement, duration and the subjectivity of time". The continuous flow of the river vs the flow that was captured in my 10 minute film, shot over different times of the day, can also be used to demonstrate the concepts of "real time" and "mathematical time" as proposed by Henri Bergson. I think the film medium works best because it captures the motion of time with the flow of the water. Still photos could result in beautiful pictures but in my view would not be able to really illustrate the meaning of duration or the theme on subjectivity of time

  • Thank you for sharing this, have a better sensing of his thoughts... I have only read his ideas on morality and religion when I was trying to gain insights on Kant and his categorical imperatives.. do like what Bergson has to say on "fabulation function"..
