  • ...in conclusion, people were talking without knowing the facts, people were jumping to conclusions, and yes "pre-judging" a situation and another person.

    The very basis of prejudice.

So everyone, media and Obama included, look in the mirror and know, that the other half of the problem is staring right back at you. As a society, we have a responsibility toward one another and giving each other the benefit of the doubt would go a long way toward a social and racial harmony.

  • ...It's interesting how some people, the media, and Obama jumped all over the racial aspect and when it was discovered that it had no part in the case...

people let Gates off the hook with a, "Well, he acted badly BUT"

YET still want to question the officer - who after ALL his years on the force has NO history of racial bias against him, in fact his record toward minorities IS just the opposite, it's exemplary...

  • You are a crime... Motherfucker!

  • Professor Gate's daughter resembles Lisa Bonet. She sure is an intelligent young woman. She sure did express her point of view eloquently.

Professor Gate's shouldn't have brought up officer's Crowley's mother. So I guess its deuce. To make it fair they both should apologize to one another. I do feel that both parties over-reacted. President Obama did the right thing to bring the men together over a beer. It simmered things down a bit. But still a lot of racial profiling exist.

  • I think when the Commissioner of the Police Department in Cambridge said "he followed practices and procedures", that should end it there in my opinion.

The media threw the race aspect of it way out of proportion. The officer did what he was "told to do". If you are black, white, purple, green, whatever, if you are doing something and the police act within procedures against, THAT means that you are supposed to be arrested/detained.

  • Gates and Obama are the only racists I see here.

  • "Gates was surprised" (?)

Having locked myself out I've personally had to break into my place a number of times. If Gates front door required both his and his drivers efforts to get in and he had to "put his shoulder to the door", when the police arrive and mention a break in....well duh, that's when I would have laughed and explained the situation and just have been cooperative. And yes, apologetic, "I'm sorry you had to come out here officer"...
