Do the test with the same distributors (and brand new) with points and aftermarket (pertronix being one) and I'll believe it ;). It used a Lucas 25D4 at first it seemed (a tired one) and then a Bosch 009 (IMO a very poor replacement for an original Bosch vacuum dizzy), and then a new 123 dizzy. Hardly a fair test. But I'm sure the 123 dizzy is a nice bit of kit.
Actually that's not true. One of the issues with pertronix (and don't get me wrong, it is very good) is that the magnet casing that goes over the cam is imperfect, and susceptable to variances in the magnets and the pickup. By design it'll never be as good as the 123, but a very good second.
123 is easy, simple, and works incredibly well. The package is great. My ONLY gripe is that you have to remove the dizzy to adjust the curve. This is only minor as once set, its a regular "Showtime Oven" set and forget.
thas one big problem with older cars! there is no new distributor for sale anymore. I've been using a 123 sinds 2 1/2 year now and its perfect! never looked at it and the motor runs like a new one sinds. Model citroen id19b also nown as the ds.
Sure, timing jumped around a little using the ancient distributor in which the Pertronix was installed. With the brand new 123 distributor, timing was pretty stable. If a Pertronix or Hot-Spark ignition had been installed in a brand new distributor, the timing would have been stable, too.
