Hey dude, fighting those rotten sod's is a perfect time to start learning more deathblows. Since you can't use them, just hit the button combo's to try and start learning them, I think they raise faster if you actually use the combination for them. Also, if your character is asleep or confused, (if you want) I think just hit them with one of your own with one triangle attack. Should snap out of it and not do much damage.
