  • I just got a German sheperd thats about 8 months old, How would I go About Teaching him to lay. He does good on sit and stay but I just cant master lay and shake.. Hes a little on the weak side from being mistreated but hes in great hands now.

  • I think it is about repetition and being consistent. They are very smart dogs and can learn very quickly. I am glad that he is with a good family now. Good luck! Since Bowzer has gotten bigger, he is more smart which makes him more stubborn, so I find it harder to train him.

  • Very intelligent dog. Thing that I've had a problem with and what he is kind of doing is once he sits, he's putting his paw up to shake.. Make sure when he sits he doesn't put his paw up yet. Its difficult but I had to correct that once the dog layed down, she'd want to roll over without command. But good looking dog too.

  • Thank you very much! When we made the video, it was his first day of training, and what you mentioned was what we were trying to do. He is now 7 months, so he has perfected the sit/shake commands now...haha. Yeah, you are right, it was difficult at first, but he got it.

  • I would recommend that you not repeat your commands over and over, because then your dog will starting chaining, and will learn the chained command intstead of just the one, but I must say for being so young that pup did amazingly well!

  • Just awesome.

  • I know that he's way older now, but when training him, don't do the commands in the same order everytime. Then he has to actually learn the commands instead of doing them in the order as always. Does that make sense?

  • Any puppy should be with his/her littermates until at least 8 weeks of age. In many states, it is illegal to sell a puppy under 7 weeks old.
