Academy Award nominee and Tony Award-winning actor John Lithgow takes the title role in the National Theatre's uproarious production of the classic Victorian farce, The Magistrate, which will be broadcast to cinemas throughout the UK and around the world as part of National Theatre Live on 17 January 2013 (and varying dates internationally).

When Agatha (Olivier Award-winning actress Nancy Carroll), wife of kindly magistrate Posket (John Lithgow), tells a little white lie about her age, suddenly a whole family is embroiled in a night of misunderstandings, hair-raising discoveries and frantic escapes from the law.

Expect laughs and revelations in Olivier Award-winning director Timothy Sheader's new production of this comic masterpiece by one of Victorian London's favourite playwrights, Arthur Wing Pinero.
