Cooper, with his sunglasses and climbing shoes on, goes through "caves" and climbs the boulders of the Texas Canyon, Arizona rest area of the Dragoon Mountains near Cochise Stronghold even with all of the bed-head his car seat could muster. (A lesser kid would topple over from such knotty hair!)
Since the first time we stopped here, back in 1998, we have made a point to ALWAYS come back. Located between Benson and Willcox, (west of "The Thing") it is just so awesome and cool (and I personally find it visually stunning). However, if you want to climb anything, you need to be heading eastbound because they keep a fence around the nature on the westbound side and there is no crossover that I am aware of.
We took Cooper here the first time when he was less than 3-months old. (I know we had a camera at the time, but I can only find pictures [not video] on the hard drives. I'll keep looking.) At least this time he can climb up himself.
Next time we will read the historic facts about the area to him... and then we'll climb.
Watch out for snakes! That rest stop is our favorite Vortex!
