@MrSpidron There are all sorts of things that we take for granted today, that would have been considered impossible for almost all of human existence. Photography, refrigeration, radio, and flight are just a few things that people like myself would have claimed to be impossible. To quote James Randi "Perhaps Uri Geller does have supernatural powers. But if he does he's doing it (magic tricks) the hard way."I can't prove that Geller doesn't have supernatural powers, but I can duplicate his tricks.
@GGGeoff Ok, we will have to agree to disagree, although if you can believe in God I can't see the problem in believing Geller. It was interesting to talk to you though. Regards.
@MrSpidron This is anecdotal evidence. It can't be proven or disproven, it is nothing more than an individuals belief. I do believe in God, but if I was to claim that He floated down from Heaven into my dining room and had dinner with me last night, there wouldn't be any evidence of it having occured and would not be saufficient evidence as to His existence. If Geller can read minds, he should do it in a controlled labratory enviornment. This wasn't the case in Targ and Putoff's research.
@GGGeoff Not sure how you cant have heard of Geller if you're 35. I knew of him when I was 9, but I am45 so was around when he hit the big time in the UK. He is bigger here I think than in other countries. I never believed in what he did and still dont believe he can bend metal, but he CAN do the drawing thing. Also, Russell Targ's drawings were done at home and taken in the next day. Surely that in itsself is a pretty strong safeguard against him peeking the drawing!
@GGGeoff He told me to draw something simple so I drew a house.I folded it and put it in my pocket. His back was turned and he walked about 15 ft away. He then told me to draw it in my mind over and over. He picked up a pad (I drew on the studio ticket). I drew in my mind a childs drawing of a cat and this is what he drew(minus the whiskers). He DID NOT draw what I had drawn, but Wwhat I THOUGHT OF. I cant prove it, no. But I know it happened. It convinced me!
@MrSpidron Your first sentence explains the problem. Targ (and Putoff's) experiments WEREN'T accurate. There were numerous examples of poor and no controls on the tested subject. All these things are well documented in the book "The truth about Uri Geller" by James Randi. Have you seen the video of Geller on Johnny Carson's show? That was an example of proper controls being placed on the subject being tested. And of course, Geller failed miserably. If you haven't seen it before just do a search.
@MrSpidron How did Geller draw your thought? I cant explain it, other than to say that I dont believe it actually occured. If it did occur, then why can't Geller reproduce it in a labrotory setting? You realize of course that you are giving anecdotal evidence that cant be proven or disproven. Have you seen all the videos on youtube that catch Geller cheating? I'm 35 years old, and until recently had never even heard of Uri Geller. He fell out of style a long time ago when he was caught cheating.
@GGGeoff If the reports about Russell Targ's experiments with Geller are accurate, then his drawing duplications were done while he was in a sealed off room. The drawings were taped to the outside of the door and Geller reproduced them. Also, the drawings were done at Targ's home and sealed in can envel;ope. They were brought in the following morning with no chance of Geller seeing them.
@GGGeoff Well you are entitled to your opinion, but I disagree. The great Robert Houdin was asked by a kid "How many card tricks can you do? I can do over 50". Houdin replied smugly "OH, I think about 7!" His point being that the best magicians only need a few tricks done well, amateurs do loads BADLY. My own repetoire (I work professionally) has only 9 effects and I've been using it since 1999. And you havent addressed how Geller drew my THOUGHT OF drawing.
@MrSpidron Geller has done street magic and u can find it here on youtube. Great magicians can do countless tricks. Average magicians can do a couple tricks well. If Geller can read someone's mind, then I would challenge him to do it in a contolled scientific setting. He claims to have done it before but "scientists" Targ and Putoff were both ruined because they had no proper controlls to stop Geller's cheating in their tests. Geller is a fraud. He is nothing more than an average street magician.
