Keisha Lee lives near the 59th St bridge in New York City, and due to traffic and congestion nearby every one of her kids has asthma. Mayor Bloomberg's plan to green NYC can help reduce air pollution from traffic.

  • Sadly, that's not always as simple a choice as you make it sound, Akheil.

  • f you put toll booths coming into the city from the bridges, wouldn't you have MORE fuel emissions because people have to stop and wait to pay the tolls? They'll be pile ups on the bridges as people wait to pay. Look at the Verrazano Bridge going into Staten Island during most times of the day.

You put a toll near the 59th St. bridge and you'll have MORE of a pollution problem!

  • Have you ever heard of the black plague?

Pollution is a problem but there is a larger problem.

The people we are asking to help fix this problem are the same people who created the pollution.

They realize that people are panicking and willing to do anything to fix this "global crisis". So? Who's way of life will be sacrificed first?

Not Exxon Mobil's, or the lifestyles of senators & congressman. No, it will be ours. This is not about the enviroment to THEM, it's about CONTROL...

  • Your honesty is refreshing, at least you're not preaching and bleating like the rest. The whole point is that people are forced, through structured inequality and lack of opportunity, to live in circumstances that are unhealthy and/or dangerous. It's the same reason why almost all the victims of Katrina were poor and black. All the rich whites could afford to move to nice houses on higher ground.

  • Great idea! You wanna pay for it? Oh wait.

It really is a simple choice... if only people weren't forced to live in areas with unhealthy levels of pollution and contamination (not to mention poor schools, public services, green spaces, whatever).

    *sigh*

  • You're an idiot. No-one is complaining about having asthma. We're saying it's unjust that people are being GIVEN asthma. Would you wish your fate on others? It's basically proven that pollution causes Asthma, and pollution is unfairly affecting poor and minority populations...

Thanks for your enlightened addition to the discussion. You are one more reason why YouTube is a cesspool.

  • she needs to move, i don't understand why its the government and peoples problem that she lives there.

  • whoa she live under a bridge

  • America can deal with ANY problem that comes our way!

Let's expect our leaders to stop making them.

  • Take a free ride on the Staten Island Ferry to see a hidden secret of New York City with your naked eyes. New York city and New Jersey borders are now covered with a light red visible very think envelope of pollution. It's a think layer between the city and the sky. You can't miss and it's really scary.
