ATI Radeon HD 5970 Video Card Installation in Corsair Obsidian 800D Linus Tech Tips

Here I take a look at the 5970 in terms of what kind of gargantuan case you're going to need to install this crazy thing. I'm using the Corsair 800D, but I suppose there might be a couple more cases out there that will support it. Seriously though, this thing is HUGE. Even gamer-oriented cases like the Antec 900 won't fit it without modifications.

And this is why I've kept my old case since the early 00's, back in the days when you still had room for a full length PCI card. Most cases nowadays are designed for half length.

i was thinking about getting a 5970 but i have an antec 300 case, no chance it will fit unless i cut out one of the HDD bays that im not using lol.

I upgraded to this card from the 5570, which is a low profile card. I only had it because my 4850 burned out. I knew the 5970 was a large card, but didn't realize just how big it was until it arrived at my house and I unboxed it. It barely fits into my computer, I'll upgrade my case later on, but this is a great card.
