THis is lovely version of a beautiful song, which originates, by the way in old Scotia, (Scotland). It has been said that the Scots invented it and Nova Scotians and Irish improved it. This version suggests they may be right, but but before you make up your mind, listem to the Hellawes RUSSIAN- Irish fusion version: lead vocalist, Natalia O'Shea, herself a a lovely example of Russo-celtic fusion.
@CrazyInsanelikeafox Well, I'm french woman and I'm very happy that some people made "hommage" to the old irish song, or I would never eard Peggy Gordon which is a wonderfull song. So thank you to the Corrs. nd thant you also évidemment, at the old irish song...it's very hard, even with internet and the mondialisation to find great songs an albums of Irish Songs in France...
hhmmm... i don't know the old version really but all i can say is that i really miss them and it's sad to know that they have their own lives already and some of them having a solo career now but still i'm hoping that they sing again as a whole as THE CORRS should be
@CrazyInsanelikeafox, there have been many versions, by so many people.. I recall the first time I heard it was by a newfoundland local singer by the name of Harry Hibbs...he was not the greatest singer by any means but I felt his angst when he sang this song imploring the love of one Peggy Gordon.
tracy070991, You say "this is a good version of a beautiful song".
It is a beautiful song but this is not a good version of it, this is a watered down piece of crap. If you want to hear a "good version" listen to Luke Kelly or Paddy Reilly sing it.
