  • Always wanted to see one.

    Thank you.

    What turns the glasses?

  • A little electric motor and a pedal to control the speed (and so the dynamics).

  • What an unbelievable beautiful sound!

Listen to Natalie Dessays CD where she sings the mad-scene from "Lucia". They use a glassharmonica there instead of the flute. It's very touching.

  • Actually, it is not a glassharmonica - the instrument Donizetti wanted to be played in the mad scene, you are right - which is used in Dessay's recording but a verrophon (that she also generally uses when she is on stage), a recent instrument. It looks like a kind of big pan flute and you rub the top of the glasses. The instrument, the period, the sound and the technique are different.

  • long live mozart

  • kinda sounds like a carnival, the music the carousell plays, sounds like the instruments in the music sometimes

  • Wow, glass harmonica. Mozart did it all, didn't he?

  • @TeresaWii Well, that's a weird kind of question... I listened to it because I was curious to discover a new instrument, and because that is a great TV show, which made me expect something good. And I was disappointed, that's all. If your question is "why do you keep listening to this?" well, the video is only 30 seconds long, so the pain was endurable. :)

  • @LostInTheGroove Why do u listen to this then?

  • интересный инструмент!

  • this doesn't sound very good... quite noisy..

  • I like this composition but there is much more of it which doesn´t appear here.

  • The glass dosent stay wet. you dip your fingers in water its just like the glass harp, the instrument itself isn't wet your fingers are.

  • How do the glasses stay wet so there is friction? Franklin's design had them revolving in a trough of water.
