I like the idea of a maglev train between Los Angeles and Las Vegas, but I support private industry more than anything. I am ready for the groundbreaking of DesertXpress next month.
-
@ShiekoBento Just to clarify, DesertXpress is seeking a Federal Loan. There's a difference between a loan and a federal grant. Obviously, the loan is to be paid back. DesertXpress is currently working with undisclosed business partners to start construction by the end of September.
-
@ShiekoBento It's on there now. It would not surprise me that, after DesertXpress is completed, Amtrak or Metrolink will provide rail connections to Los Angeles; or perhaps a bus service.
-
@ShiekoBento yes the truth is nobody cares about victorville we want this maglev because we want to go to the main cities lika los angeles and san fransisco.
-
true beside the Desert xpress should start sometime by the last week of this month.
-
Maglev are very expensive project so its cheaper to build a desert xpress from vegas to victorvill and extend the tracks from victorvill to Palmdale and connect with the california high speed rail which goes from L.A. to San Fransisco so If you want to go to anaheim from vegas, you take the Desert Xpress to palmdale and connect with the California HSR and take it to Anaheim.

Yeah, people can talk all day about this, but in the end, all you have to ask is:
WHY build a 30-story creaky stairwell in a 50-story building when you can have a slick, fast elevator that goes all the way to the penthouse?
More than 9 out of 10 people in our community prefer Maglev over the Deserted Xpress (81% vs 8%). In fact more people would rather have NO project at all than a steel wheel train to Victorville. (according to LVSun poll)

The Maglev alignment makes about 500% more sense than the DesertedXpress because it:
Will take me all the way into Los Angeles metro area in less time than DX can get to Victorville.
Will actually connect two of the largest tourist destinations in the world, not to mention 3 airports.
Will address the most congested and miserable portion of I-15 that DX completely misses, from LA to Victorville.
Will have 6 stations - boosting the economies of several cities, unlike DX.
Forecasts show that Maglev will attract 4 times more travelers than DesertXpress. This is because of its connections and, compared to steel wheel trains, Maglev is more than twice as fast, uses 30% less energy at same speeds, has significantly less operation and maintenance costs, has 99.9% on-time reliability, uses almost half the amount of right-of-way and is much safer as it is impossible to derail.

Thanks ShiekoBento, we see you have done your homework. The cost of this Maglev project will be $45 million/mile (within the same range as DX), an estimate approved by the Federal Railroad Administration and published by the Government Accountability Office. And this will be funded through a similar financial strategy as the CA High Speed Rail, using both private and public money and would actually be profitable because of the attraction, destinations and ridership of the project.
