I play guitar and i'm learning bouzouki and picking it up pretty well, and my mate plays accordian/melodian and hopefully we'll be able to be jamming like this pretty soon!

You can make it as hard or easy as you wish, but on the whole it is pretty forgiving, more so than the guitar I would say. Especially if you use a modal tuning like GDAD or ADAD. It is getting the strumming hand down that takes time. Go get a zouk!
