Evilcutter, you are (as far as I've been able to determine, having read everything there is to read about Rory) completely correct.
Rory eventually accumulated many guitars (Fenders as well as others), and played many of them on stage, but the Strat you see here is the legendary "first Strat sold in Ireland" which he bought when he was a teenager, and he played it regularly until his sad and untimely demise.
