The best way to pick up tar and oily debris from beaches is using a fork especially designed to separate and sift debris from sand. These specialized forks have very narrow tine spacing and have no problem picking up blobs of oil or tarballs as small as 5/16" or oily seaweed and beach debris. Unlike a shovel, they would let the sand and water flow through, reducing the amount of waste that must be disposed of. One of the versions is even motorized, which would greatly speed up the beach cleaning effort. See if you think they would work at http://www.tarballfork.com

  • This is ingenious, cause what BP is doing is cleaning out all of the sand, when they could just use this and clean the little sand that's in the tar.

If there is a way to flag this to BP, can someone do that please?

  • @hihid27 We have made a new video of our forks at work on the Gulf.

Search "Keep sand on the beach!" or check my other videos

  • A kitty-litter scooper on a big stick. Ingenious.

  • @bubcutus We actually made a Kitty-litter version for Telebrands, but they never got back to us about marketing it. The Shake'n Fork is much more sophisticated than that version though.

  • does it work for wet sand?

  • @samn100 As with any power tool, it should not be exposed to moisture. However, It is designed to be used after the high tide has receded and left the tarballs and oiled debris on the damp sand. If one had doubts on how effective the auto sifting function is, simply try to sift the compacted damp sand through the screen by shaking it manually. Without auto-sift, the screen makes a fork work like a shovel, it is fruitless to try to shake it by hand.

  • the bloody brits are the scum of the earth. they used banned in england oil dispersants off the u.s. coast & they harass people harmed by these chemicals who have sued these avaricious criminals. bp should be persona non grata worldwide:The brits haughty swagger stick mentality lack of empathy & distain of darker races was fostered upon subject peoples by force of arms, which violence & bigotry that was subsequently inculcated into American culture through European expansion in the New World

  • BP CEO's get paid what ???and cant even use common sence like uhhh *cave man voice* "shovel not pick up tar"....do these boobs use a shovel to clean a kitty litter box?...i think not

  • BP wants to shovel the shit with the sand because its MUCH more difficult for us to accurately estimate actually how much oil is being collected. Who is to say how much sand/oil mix is in their containers. For all we know its 99.9% sand being collected, and I wouldn't put it past them!

  • see, even this man is smarter than those dumbasses at BP, shit he's cleaned up more tar balls in this video, than bp has in the last 40 days
