They try and make it seem like they want to protect kids from smoking. But in reality...
They've been targeting children for decades.
They used to make and sponsor cartoons to market cigarettes. But, despite these shows being popular among children, they claimed that these cartoons were for an "adult audience."
Then, they paid movies to feature their brands. Some of your favorite super hero movies have characters that the industry actually paid to smoke on screen. One industry exec said that "we must continue to exploit new opportunities to get cigarettes on screen and into the hands of smokers."
And now they carefully place posters and other ads in convenience stores, and push new products that look and taste just like candy. Who eats candy and sees ads that are three feet off the ground? Come on.
So, you wanna know why I'm tobacco free?
Cause I don't want their marketing to reach my little sister.
