You gotta wonder how they came up with the "hydrogen burnoff system". You know it was just one guy, at home, stumped on how to keep the engines from blowing up on the pad at liftoff (the engines give off un-burned GH2). Saw his kids playing with a sparkler....."its so crasy it just might work!"

I agree RJ. Also, I wish they would show that shot (not sure what camera it is) from behind the shuttle at liftoff. They never use that one anymore. Nice to see the roll program from that angle.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that looks at these in detail. Also, the PAO is notorious for flubs, and it's annoying.

Also do you notice some factual errors in Kylie Clem's "commentary" such as it somehow amazingly being 7 miles downrange at T+ 33 seconds or the thrust being oh about a MILLION lbs. lower than it actually is???

STS-74 was a pretty launch. All the lauynches the last 2 years look the same. I can predict exactly when they will use the pad perimeter shot (at lift-off), VAB roof shot (during the roll), that ET feedline camera ( which could wait until after SRB sep) the DOMAS tracker shot...they must have the same guy running the video switcher every time. I wish they'd get more creative or do it more of the 80's old school style and not make it the same every time. Glad you know your stuff too! : )

That's another good one. I like close-ups of the engines, but it never hurts to have a front-view of it also, just like you mentioned. This makes me think about STS-116 and STS-74.

Yeah up until the mid-1990's they didn't have that damn railing installed on the MLP around the SSMEs, you had a more unobstructed view...now I'm just tired of it. Another good one is using 051 for the engine start even though it's in black and white- unobstructed. My favorite is when they use TV-21A, the full-color head on front shot zoomed in so you can see the flames actually hitting the water underneath and flashing as the steam cloud rolls out and hides the shuttle for a moment.

I loved that you mentioned this. The reason why 070 and 170 (for pad B) are used so much is because the majority of the time, winds are coming from the east...the ocean. These winds blow the steam and smoke into the view of cameras 071 and 171, and that's why they are rarely zoomed in. Notice this in 71's replays. The OTV (Operational Television) cameras are great for broadcast, but they're actually for engineering, hence the infrared ones. The 070 tight shot is definitely a bit yucky. :\

nice selections of camera views of STS-127 Launch ...

I truly appreciate that you edited these so well and cut out the dead air between different cameras. I liked 060 wish they'd have tilted a little lower to show more. 061 is better when they look at the ET nose cone so you can see the whole shuttle coming pat not just the orbiter. 063 was a bit tight but not bad. 070 was way too tight a shot- don't know why they insist on showing that one for main engine start 90% of the time.
