Join me in mourning the death of Roy Jones Jr's boxing career. He was the greatest lightheavyweight in the history of boxing, but now he's damaged goods. He has not been the same since losing thirty pounds for the first Tarvier fight. If his destruction at the hands of Danny Green hasn't convinced him to hang it up, he will probably end up like his friend Gerald McClellan -- a fighter with permanent and pronounced brain damage. Roy: thank you for what you've given to the sport, but you've over stayed your welcome. Please get out.

  • Jones was good, but never great. He managed to remain untested, facing minor opponents for most of his career, until he got KTFO again and again.

  • @LegionarioCruel You're talking about a guy that started his professional career at 154 and went on to win the heavyweight championship. Along the way, he completely clearead out two divisions, and won victories against future hall of fame fighters Bernard Hopkins and James Toney. Also smashed Virgil Hill when VH was wreaking havoc, and dominated Trinidad when RJ was way past his prime.

  • I never cared for Jones. He wasn't a great boxer, just fast. He had no class, poise, or character, just another ignorant country bumpkin who cursed the sport with his countless fights against mediocre opposition and rap music entrances. He fought like an ignorant chicken and avoided the best fighters of his era. His knockout at the hands of Tarver was a blessing for the sport, and nation in the never-ending quest to rid ourselves of ignorance, rap, and thugs. Jones already forgotten.

  • @jurdoc11 Whoa. Do you dring Hatorade or Venom? I'm a Venom man myself. I'd love to hear your critique of Obama.

  • I know what I am saying. Who did Jones face for the heavyweight belt? John Ruiz!!! Who was Hopkins back in 1993? A good unknown fighter with 23 pro fights. How long for them to fight again? 17 YEARS!!! Toney had problems making the suppermiddleweight division, he fought at 185 lbs just six months before facing Jones, and never made that weight again. Jones only faced Hill AFTER Michalczewski beat him. How about Calzaghe, Benn, Eubank, Collins, Jackson, Mclellan, Michalczewski????
