This is an annual event held during Lenten season (Good Friday) to show the devotion of Catholics. The Philippines is the only Asian country that is predominantly Catholic, as influenced by the Spanish colonization.
The blood is real, the nails are real. These people suffer in the name of Jesus Christ, realizing that physical pain is insufficient in honor of one that is greater than themselves and ourselves. It is a cultural, religious, societal beauty; please do not judge them.

These fruitcakes only have an infatuation with crucifxion... nothing more. Useless uneducated stupidity. The Romans would have loved these volunteers 2,000 years ago though....

Did the crucified have a plinth to stand on? I believe not: their feet were nailed also.
Crucifixion is primarily death by suffication, one has the option of raising oneself by the nails to get a gasp of air..

the first parts are from the movie version of the musical, Phantom of the Opera. the other one is actually the audio used at the procession itself. it was recorded along with the video.
