Dual trailer gasoline tanker, about 10,000 gallons on board, somehow ignites while the truck is in motion on the EB 60 Fwy in the Monebello area, just about 4 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. Rear tank goes first and extends to the front as well as the surrounding vegetation and to the overpass also... Freeway closures still in effect with no timetable for opening the 60 Freeway as of yet! Firefighters from LA County, Montebello, Santa Fe Springs, Monterey Park, Vernon, and probably other agencies are on scene. No injuries reported!

  • i live right there in the hill right next 2 it

  • on a side note gasoline tankers are the only hazmat trucks allowed to have wet lines i'e the plumbing under the truck. when these trucks are loaded these lines are packed with fuel. why? cause its faster & easier to load time=$ also the tanks are about as thick as a piece of card board. why? less weight = more fuel per load. happy motoring!

  • you have no idea how awful these drivers are treated. how would you like to drive a gasoline tanker for 10-16hrs a day for $20hr no overtime no retirement no health care. heck these guys work for up to 16hrs without so much as a lunch break?

  • My mom was at work in Costco. She saw it and took pictures. As she came home, she was dizzy from all that gas fumes.

  • @cwn89015 i live right next to it. they discovered the cables as it was being torn down thursday. they stopped and put a long beam to suspend them and finished to clear the damaged portion. the bridge was built in '68. i do not know how to discover the asbestos in the cables. cal-trans should had repave the road, get traffic moving, close the bridge and demolish it over night in pieces and not close the freeway for almost 4 days strait. i take pictures of the work done

  • @socalltd I didn't mean it disrupted services, I didn't even think about that. I meant it delayed it. If not for that, and barring other things, it could have opened sooner. The whole thing goes away, and the fire becomes a blessing for those that travel the bridge. People could have gotten sick if the bridge were allowed to deteriorate. Let's get it down and have an abestos free road.

  • @cwn89015 the cables, containing the asbestos, in the bridge and have been worked with and not disrupt services. now the remainder half is being demolished over nights this week

    (12/18/11)

  • @socalltd Only compounded more by the asbestos in the underpass itself.

  • I'm curious if the taxpayers are gong to get stuck paying for this truck driver's poor judgement stopping a burning truck under an overpass.

  • I'm impressed the bridge didn't collapse with the intense heat
