Reported STD cases in America continue to rise. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that common sexually transmitted diseases, such as chlamydia and gonorrhea, rose to 1.4-million reported cases in 2007. This amount apparently marked a 15.2-percent increase in infections. The CDC said that the US-healthcare system spends about 15.3-billion-dollars annually on STD prevention and treatment. It plans to release a separate report on HIV in the United States at a later date.

A new report states that new data reveals that the United States will likely overtake Italy by 2012 as the country consuming the most amount of wine. The study completed by the International Wine and Spirit Record estimates that US-consumers will purchase about 313-million cases of wine 4 years from now. The study also estimates that global consumption will increase almost 4-percent by 2012. Americans reportedly spent about 22-billion-dollars in wine purchases during 2007.

Another new study shows that about 3.4-million Americans reported to have been stalked during a 1-year period. The largest federal survey, released on Tuesday, reveals that about half of the victims were contacted 1-time per week by a stalker and that about 11-percent of participants had been stalked for 5 or more years. The most common type of unwanted contact, happening to 66-percent of victims, is unwanted phone calls, followed by unsolicited letters or emails. Plus, the study shows that people ages 18 to 24 are more likely to be stalked than older individuals.
