He was my hero while I was in high school. A school where I first learned of General Douglas MacArthur. A school on the peninsula just south of San Francisco. He was my hero during all my years in the US Army. He is still my hero as I approach the young age of 65. In my humble opinion, the finest General and gentleman my country has known. There never was a place for party politics in his life. His life centered on what these 3 words meant, "Duty, Honor, Country" Wolfhounddennis

Nations have honor, duty, country, not regimes.

Yes, but we are talking about TODAY, not when the speech was given. As an ex-soldier, my daughter has heard the speech several times and she knows the phrase "Duty, Honor, Country" by heart.

because West Point did not accept women until 1976.
-
Only Peck could play the role of MacArthur as well as Albert Speer.

My replay is way late but I'm glad this helped you out. I didn't go the West Point but I was an Army officer and this speech should be read in every classroom in the USA. We would all be better off for it.

To hell with the classrooms!
It should be recited from every American father to his son (and with the same dramatic fervor as so conveyed by Peck in this performance)!
You think we'd be hearing about what a problem called 'bullying' in school nowadays?
