Powell endorsed Barrack Obama and, by so doing, all that Obama represents. The Republican Party is not a debating club, it stands by certain, specific principles. If Obama represents Powell's principles, then he should join Obama's party. This is called common sense.

I have the utmost respect for Colin Powell, and any other conservatives that debate their ideas in an intelligent and well thought out manner.

It seems like the party is really starting to split where there are those who wish to exploit people's ignorance, and others (like Powell) who are trying to take a more honorable approach

The problem is, that without their far right base, what is left for the republicans? And if they left their base behind, would moderates be willing to give their vote

Powell has no ideas, and his only expertise is in forign policy. Powell is suddenly the darling of the left, just like Cindy Sheehan was. Until Sheehan started calling Hussein a warmonger, now the left wingers ignore her. Powell is being used and he is too stupid to realize it.
