Loudest, Craziest, Most Amazing FANS in the WORLD!!! Great Atmosphere of Besiktas!!!

This was only my second ever experience of supporting my dearly beloved Beşiktaş at their Inonu Stadium in Istanbul. Their fans group(named cArsi) are notorious in Turkey and are by far the most powerful when it comes to getting their voice heard to the club, football federation, players and managers, and even politicians.

cArsi was formed in 1982 by a group of teenagers from the district of Besiktas. The name cArsi came about from the fact that they would all meet at the Besiktas Carsi (the Besiktas shopping area) on matchdays. The most hardcore cArsi members occupy the halfway line area opposite the dugout in the upper tier (called "Kapali Ust"). The current leader of cArsi Alen Markaryan is the one who orchestrates the chants and singing in this area of the ground. Kapali Ust is seen as the heart of Besiktas fans and they help to spread the chants to other areas of the stadium.

Their fans are seen as highly fanatical. They are known to sing between an average of 25-35 different chants per match. cArsi are the ones to have created most of the football songs and chants in Turkey, with clubs in South America, Italy, Spain, and Greece making their own versions of cArsi songs.

The "A" in cArsi is a symbol of the anarchist views that the founders had. Although patriotic and proud Turks, they were founded on certain left-wing views at a time when Turkey was experiencing a huge left versus right struggle. cArsi are not anarchists, but they do still create banners which address their views on current social or political issues. For example, when the Black footballer of Barcelona Samuel Eto'o was taunted by Real Zaragoza fans just because of the colour of his skin, cArsi opened up a banner saying "Hepimiz Eto'oyoz, hepimiz zenciyiz" meaning "We are all Eto'o, we are all black". Many people are somehow surprised that Turkey never has issued of racism in its world of football, unlike other Mediterraenean countries such as Italy, Spain, and Greece.

cArsi are an amazing fans group, and their organisation and ability to create a new chant in almost every match is quite incredible.
