no, its a batton , my dads in the police/ riot police, he brought one home the other day, they have a button on the bottom which u hold and push it back into itself! btw i live in england so tht might be why they're differently named (Y)

But the weapon we used didnt have a button or anything you push.

when you want to fold it back up you just hit it onto pavement and it will kind of slide back together.

thats why it only opens with a swing.
