Brisk northwest flow over a day or so previous brought a lot of smoke from out of control wildfires in Quebec, Canada down to New England. During the morning of May 31, the sinking air associated with building high pressure managed to capture this smoke in the valleys below the summit of Mount Washington. This made for a sort of "smoke undercast", much like cloud undercasts (clouds below the summit) that we see on a fairly regular basis. This smoke made for some very interesting optical effects that we tried to capture with this video.
This is the first video that we have made using our new HDV camera which shoots in full 1080 HD, so be sure to view it in that quality if your computer can handle it!
