@evkeys She was actually a real person in the historical trial. It's funny how she wasn't in the OBCR or the OBC at all, and then London decided to be more historically accurate ... :D
The song wasn't cut from the OBC, it was added for this production, as was the maid's entire role in this production, although testimony very similar to this took place in the actual trial. On Broadway, Newt Lee's Testimony (basically, a reprise of "I Am Trying to Remember") was heard in this place.
