Alternatives to Criminalization - LAMP MOVIE 08

Most Detroit public school students face criminalization on a daily basis and don' even know it. What is it you ask? It's being treated like a criminal. Metal detectors, locker searches, fines and suspense for minor infractions are just some of the reasons Detroit public school student feel like schools are just like prisons.
Detroit Summer's Live Arts Media Project is a youth organization/ community with a mission to spread youth voices problems that affect them. and in 2008, youth produced three videos focusing on the major issues we see students facing in schools that might lead them to drop out.
This movie deals with the criminalization of our students and offers alternatives.We have to think out side of this old model of punishment that's obviously isn't working. If a student get into trouble then they should go though a trans-formative process that leaves both parties better off from where they started. This video offers several ways schools have dealt with problem and punishment that don't rely on suspensions or fines.
