When we were in Berlin, we took a day trip to the Polish border town of Slubice.
Slubice sits on the other side of the River Oder and faces the town Frankfurt Oder. It was a very interesting experience, but I don't think i'll be going back there for a while.
I agree. It isn't much of a town, but it was still an interesting experience. The great thing about the Polish Zloty is that things are very cheap. Like you say you had the local beer for only 5 Zlotys = £1.10p!
Hopefully I will visit real Poland, like Warsaw, Krakow, the big major cities, to really get a feel of what Poland is really like.

I lived in Berlin in the summer of 2008 and did the exact same thing as you, taking a day trip to Slubice. Only difference is I took a train to Frankfurt and then walked over.
My experience was pretty similar. It was a rainy day too. I crossed the bridge, walked fairly deep into the town. Nothing but smoke shops wherever you looked.
I stopped in that little hut you can see at the 1:46 mark of the video and had a nice Tyskie on tap for 5 Zlotys.
Not much of a town, but glad I visited.

You know, I don't actually know why I put "German" in front of Autobahn as there is only one Autobahn!
