HERE'S THE REASON WHY HE DOESN'T TAP IT IN:
J.O. Waldner and J. Persson play one of the best points ever.
In several Million views, the most frequently asked question has been: "Why doesn't he just tap it in?".
Well, of course that can be done. It's extremely difficult to do it right, because of the massive spin, and on a high bounce the opponent can run in a kill it, or, if you're the "Mozart of Table Tennis", this is how you deal with it: Look at "Table Tennis Spectacular - Part 2"

@infiniteDefinitives Have you ever played table tennis? There is so much spin on the returned ball that he needs to hit it hard and just go for the middle of the table. If you hit it loose, the spin gets grip on the racket and the very lightweight ball spins off in an almost uncontrollable direction (i.e. probably misses the table). But this also means that the ball will be returned more or less directly to the opponent. Also the defender usually misses sooner or later.
