This is a quick rebuild I did to my bike in August. I ran the bike for about a decade from 1976 until the mid 1980's. The bike sat stored poorly for 25 years : ( . Here's a list of some of the things I worked on this month:

New ignition switch $
New battery $$
Boyer Mark III Ignition $$$$
Tympanium Regulator $$
6V Coils $$
New wiring
New steering lock $
New fork seals and o-rings $
New pistons and rings $$$ (lunmad vid helped)
New pushrod tube seals (lunmad vid helped)
New S/S allen screw engine bolts $
Lapped the valves (lunmad vid helped)
Cleaned head (lunmad vid helped)
Viton o-rings on valve stems (Mr. Pete idea)
New exhaust brackets and clamps $$
2 New pushrods $$ (lunmad vid helped)
New throttle cables $$ (lunmad vid helped)
Clean out carbs (lunmad vid helped)
New carb jets and needles $$
AdjustCarb float valve seats (lunmad vid helped)
Replace all oils $
Grease swing-arm
Strobe timing (lunmad vid helped)
Properly ground engine and headlight
Adjust tappets (lunmad vid helped)
Clean oil sludge from tank
Soldered leak in tank (exact same place as lunmad's vid) (lunmad vid helped)

Lunmad's videos were a great help for about 90% of the work. I think if it weren't for his vids the bike would still be sitting and rusting out under a tarp in the back yard. The bike will need new valve guides and valves and possibly a rebore with new +40 pistons in the near future ($$$$). At least I know the bike runs to motivate me for the next stuff I have to do.

Here's a list of things I'm working on in the next few months:
New battery box $$
New seat $$
New tank & badges $$$$$$
Front and rear brakes $$
Rechrome swingarm $$
Rebore $$$
+40 Pistons & Rings $$$
Valve Guides $$$
Valves $$$
Tightening
Tuning
Removing rust
Clean and polish

See you on the blacktop soon.

  • I brought the bike to a shop in the 90's to get the valves and guides done. When I got the bike back and started it the pushrods popped off the rockers and jammed up into the inside of the rocker covers. The shop went out of business the same week (I was lucky to get my bike back!) so I ended up just storing the bike for years until last year. My first rebuild last year was just to get it started. This year I changed the guides and the valves myself and rebored the cylinders. Runs great now.

  • Nice bike. Why do you blip the throttle that much?

  • @VMATT500C Greetings

    Carbs weren't properly tuned yet.

  • how did those push rod tubes get so bent?

  • Good for you!

    Where are you at?

I've got the modern beast but still love the old metal as you can see if you google images for this:

    pair of sexy triumphs

    Peace.

  • British lives on,

  • lovely lovely:) It must be something in the air, but why does it say 'potatoe potatoe when it's a Trump?;) That must be the carb too...

  • Thank God, I thought you were one of the guys who blip the throttle 20 times to go 3 meters/feet.

  • Good job !
