http://live.pirillo.com - Up until recently, there was a huge Hi-Definition format war in relation to DVDs. We had HD-DVD vs Blu-Ray. Now... HD-DVD has gone the way of the Do-Do bird.

  • The tide turned for Blu-Ray because of the PS3. The only reason it didn't happen sooner is because the PS3 was too overpriced when it first came out. When the price lowered thats when HD-DVD was finished. For nearly the same price of a standalone Blu-Ray Player, they could have one + a game console.

Exact same thing happened with the PS2 and DVD. Just took longer because of the price.

The 360 HD-DVD drive was never going to work. People want stuff straight out of the box, not pricey add-ons.

  • now blu ray is only 99 bucks...

  • internet is gonna be at the speed of light and every thing is gonna be held on a 500gb thumb drive and disks will DIE

  • I asume.since blue ray can hold up much more memory...it made sence

  • i think blu ray dvd and 3d blu ray dvd will put a end to dvd. honestly i would rather watch movies on youtube because its free.

  • Sony had it in the bag for one reason the ps3 because even if hd-dvd was the winner the ps3 was still going to be around and the ps3 games were still going to be blu-rays and sony has more friends in the movie biz.

  • this guy is a moron.

google this: 'blu ray vs hd dvd fact vs fiction home theater blog'

then click into the resulted website, blu ray is over hyped.

  • format war now : netflix vs. amazon video player

  • lol DivX has never died, its a codec for stored media there is alot of people that use the AVI DivX format still PS3 with usb flash, direct from harddrive adn alot of newer DVD players will play Divx from a DVD ROM
