What I've always appreciated about Natalie Merchant is that she never really conformed to "industry standards". Her lyrics are always deep, poetic and substantive. Also, she was all about fighting global issues, such as poverty and environmental degradation long before it was en vogue. I embrace and appreciate her independent expression in her music and life.

I can't get over just how good Break Your Heart is. It's fucking magnificent. Can't go wrong with horns--we need more songs with horns! Seriously, some of my favorite rock music and music in general is stuff with trumpet, sax etc.
