Nigel Powell remembers a five-a-side football game between Oxford indie legends Radiohead and Ride.

This is an outtake from the forthcoming documentary ANYONE CAN PLAY GUITAR which tells the thirty year story of Oxfords indie music scene. It features never-before-seen footage and exclusive interviews with members of Radiohead, Ride, Supergrass, Oasis, Foals, Talulah Gosh, Swervedriver, Unbelievable Truth, Candyskins, Dive Dive and many more.

  • haha I can't imagine Colin and Jonny in a football match

  • What a story! I always wondered if there was a connection between RH & Ride, since I haven't come across any press that linked the bands together. Ha, yeah, given RH's collective interest in football, I wonder why they even participated in the match.

The arguments on which band is better musically would be endless. As for me, I loved the early Ride stuff & I HATED RH when I heard "Creep". Then I lost interest in Ride after Going Blank Again & I started liking RH when they put out OK Computer.

yeah oxford has produced the best bands. and its definitely because of the competition

  • anybody realize that Andy Bell was in Oasis and now in Beady Eye?

Beady Eye is shit by the way

  • Jonny hates football haha, I wanna see him run and play football now!!!

  • @talktal actually 92 and 97 respectively - still 5 year gap though

  • I like Foals, supergrass, radiohead and ride but Oasis are not from oxford XD and they suck

  • @talktal Yeah, I'm well aware of when each album came out. I suppose I have to make it so clear... My loss of interest in Ride and my gaining of interest in Radiohead happened in a five-year span in the 90s.

  • going blank again came out in 93 and okcomputer like 98. that's a big gap for "and then" @gamelanplan

  • not for me. dont even own one radiohead album and have all the ride lps and eps @loopytaru

  • Ive never heard of ride, and i hate comparing bands. but im going to check them out for sure.
