"Deck Thyself, My Soul, with Gladness"
"Partita on Schmücke dich" is based on Johann Crüger's well-known melody of 1649. Although the complete hymn has nine verses, Shaffer chose to set four to achieve musical contrast and to complement the text. The work was composed in 1970 at the request of Sam Batt Owens, who premiered it at St. George's Episcopal Church in Nashville that year.

What a great piece! This is my favorite hymn (in the RVW setting) -- I love the different things Shaffer does with it. Thanks for posting!

@michaelsmusicservice I'm glad it's helping. 400 pieces? If you have anything else from her I would love to know! :)

This is great! It Several organists have ordered this piece and will play it for their congregations. Jeanne Shaffer wrote over 400 works and deserves to be heard, so thank you, Erica. Here's just one comment: "I watched and heard Erica Mundy's YouTube performance and really liked the
style and texture of the piece. With work (quite a lot of work!) I think
this is something I could eventually learn to play, so I've ordered it from
you."
