This video is straight from the developer to the beta users. Might help explain more of the feature.
This shows the new State Sets feature for 3ds Max 2012 subscription users. One of the things you can use this feature for is to do render passes and perform bidirectional interop with Adobe After Effects.
great in theory. as usual with max though it's a new feature and therefore broken for production so you'll have to wait till 2013 till it actually works :)

Incorrect. I would mostly be a waste of time and all of the mac users would expect their hands to be held through every little problem and options menu. Adobe has enough trouble already dealing with incredibly dense mac users that cannot figure anything out for themselves.
There is absolutely no benefit to the mac platform, since it's running intel hardware and a crappy, simplified os.
You actually thought (and still think) that having less buttons is better.

This helps Way more than the newer video. Although, it would be nice if it didn't crash constantly.
Also, I wonder what the workflow is suppose to look like if you messed something up (maybe a crash happened) and have all of the renders, but now have No connection. How do you repair that and get it back? Is there a way to rebuild that?

Wow, i w8 for some time for something like this, very nice. But why u don't integrate the update link in to Ae interface and in max to , not some floating menu and if u could make detect if an update was made and announce you or automated update between them would be great. But anyway even so ig very nice. I am amazed how big companies like Adobe and Autodesk have not done anithing major for conecting their apps. Lucky whit third party plugins bcz big guys are to lazzy.

this was actually impressive, but knowing autodesk I will reserve final judgement until release :D

This looks great. Here's hoping you release it fully tested and bug-free (for a change)
