  • I knew there had to be more kick-ass Del songs out there. Straight to my favorites! Thanks!

  • This is one of my top 5 favorite Del Shannon records.... this is among his best Liberty stuff, it's a freaking wonder why they never issued this as a single!

  • @TopshelfTom i agree, top 3 or 4 with me. This song haas Del's classis style incorporated in it.

  • Rockin' song. The Liberty Years CD is just fantastic. All the songs were remastered using the original tapes and sound wonderful. Del made some great music after his early 60's heyday that unfortunately not many know about. He was one of the first to cover a Beatles song (From Me To You) because they toured with him before breaking out themselves. Del also has a killer version of the Stones' "Under My Thumb" on the CD.

  • @Delfan1961 Love the song- one of the first I learned to play on guitar!

  • @Delfan1961 I guess Tommy Boyce took his own life in the mis 90's, despondent over declining health. His partner, Bobby Hart was from Yuma, AZ- my home state. The song 'Last Train to Clarksville was (allegedly) inspired by 'Clarkdale', a town just north of my hometown, Phoenix.

  • @saguaroboy ,,,"for the record", Del's version (of "SHE") reached the following highest-known chart positions: #4 (Lowell, MA), #11 (Manchester, NH), "Top 40" (Ann Arbor, MI), #13 (Montreal, Canada) and #25 (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada).

Please see the "Las Solanas ARSA" website, devoted to old radio survey charts.

  • @saguaroboy ...what happened to Tommy Boyce ? Apparently, he was a great fan of Del's. I once saw a book, by Boyce, in the library that had a complimentary reference to Del. Del's Boyce-produced version of "She" was starting to get airplay and sales in very early 1967, when the Monkees management rush-released their album track version out as a single. Since they were the hottest act in show biz, then, deejays switched over to their version, killing Del's.

  • @Delfan1961 Thanks- interesting info. What a powerhouse combo, Boyce and Shannon- and two tragic ends. I get a lot of joy out of Shannon's style and sound.

  • @saguaroboy ...it was recorded November 3, 1966 (produced by Tommy Boyce) at the session which yielded Del's next single..."She". This track ("Stand Up") and "The House Where Nobody Lives" remained in the vaults, apparently forgotten, until the "Liberty Years" CD (1991) which included all three of that session's tracks.

  • the master himself, the incomparable DEL SHANNON with his greatest ''lost'' hit from 1966. he was truly a 1 of a kind musician and a wonderful human being. WE MISS YOU DEL. ILL SHAKE YOUR HAND WHEN WE MEET IN THE NEXT LIFE. AMEN.
