I'm gonna start uploading random Sonic The Hedgehog zones with me clearing them at my best starting with the original Green Hill Zone.

ZONE DESCRIPTION: Green Hill zone is a beautiful tropical land filled with lots of flowers and palmtrees, this zone is where all the animals like to hang out, the scenery is beautiful and there is a breathtaking view of the ocean but unfortunately Dr. Robotnik has left hundreds of crazed robots spreaded through out the area making Sonic's travels a bit challenging. Watch Sonic as he goes around the giant loop, tumble down tunnels, and jumps over crumbling cliffs before you even get a chance to blink. This is the start of Sonic's endless quest to rid planet mobius of the evil Dr Ivo Robotnik.

I believe I cleared this zone with every single ring and item box and left nothing out, I don't play Sonic The Hedgehog games just to speed through the whole thing, I take my time through each zone collecting as many rings and item boxes as I can to rack up a big score.

This is the PAL 50Hz version of Sonic The Hedgehog and as far as i'm concerned this is how the music is supposed to sound, I grew up with it so It's normal. I'm not knocking the USA/Japanese version but in my opinion the NTSC 60Hz version is extremely difficult to play because you have less time to react to whats happening on screen, plus they butchered the music by making it sound like a thrashed heavy metal band. I now own all the 16-bit Sonic titles in NTSC 60Hz or should I say PAL 60Hz in the SEGA Mega Drive Ultimate Collection on XBox360 and I still rather play them in PAL 50Hz running on a real PAL SEGA Mega Drive, it just feels more natural plus the music sounds better in 50Hz, you have more time to react to whats happening on screen, the framerate is smoother and you get higher screen resolution.

NOTE: There is no such thing as ''Blast Processing'' it was merely a marketing phrase said by SEGA Of America's president Tom Kalinske to advertise the speed difference between the SEGA Genesis and Super Nintendo, it has nothing to do with PAL/NTSC and it wasn't a piece of hardware that was built into the system.

This has been recorded off my modified SEGA Mega Drive model 2.

MUSIC COMPOSER: Masato Nakamura* (1991 Dreams Come True)

SOUND ASSISTANTS: Macky, Jimita 1991.

Enjoy!

  • Its about time, not score...

  • @Kyle247l It's about having fun however the player chooses to play it.

  • @Adam060756 True that, anyway I keep hearing that PAL is a mistake - what I mean is that Sega Messed up the audio frequency in which the game runs at, because the PAL Version is quite a lot slower, if so then how come the PAL Version is still the same speed in the Sega Megadrive collection for the PSP in 2006?

  • @Kyle247l Good question.

I can't prove it but I think SEGA intended Sonic 1 to be how it is in the PAL format. Yes it could be intentional, it could be a mistake or it could just be because of the nostalgia of the original PAL 1991 release as to why SEGA have re-released the PAL 50Hz version at least 5 times.

Whichever out of three you wanna believe?

  • I don't why the music in the PAL version is better, it's not supposed to sound like that.the NTSC is better..

  • @MarioMania05 Sonic Team and SEGA of Europe released it like this deliberately in the PAL regions.

It IS supposed to sound like this.

  • @Adam060756 Here here! The NTSC version sounds like sonic on cocaine or speed. PAL version sounds like REAL music and as a result of playing slower, it doesn't cycle through each track as many times as NTSC while you play each level. Especially the marble hill zone with that 'ethnic' type music. If its faster it sounds less authentic.

  • best of sega!

  • the old sonic games were the best the new ones are crap

  • i always used to go through the ring a the end... doesnt that take you to that emerald level with all the rings?!

  • @Adam060756 nope, you're not the only one on you tube who plays like this, look at Chemical plant zone perfect bonus ^_^

  • omg. I remember having a mega drive and this game when i was like 6 and im 14 now! I WANT IT BACK!! lol i loved this game!!

  • lol, killing every single enemy and nabbing every single ring isn't the right way to play it, it's the OCD way to play it. :P The faster you complete the level, the more points you get for time bonus at the end.

The guy in the video at /watch?v=GMMn2j1bev4 gets a score of 66,030 for Act 1 of Green Hill Zone after blasting through the game "improperly" in 24 seconds. This perfect-ring, perfect-enemy-obliteration run of yours only produced a score of 41,230. But I like this way too. :3

  • Just That Ring Sound and The Whole Music Just Takes Me Back
