This JUST happened to me this morning at Enterprise. Reserved a car online yesterday & received a confirmation number. Got to the rental office this morning--"I'm sorry. We don't have any cars left". "But I have a reservation and a confirmation #. Do you see me in the system?" "Yes, but 3 people reserved cars before you and we're now out." "Then why did your system allow me to make a reservation??" "You can make a reservation, but that doesn't guarantee you a car." WTF??

I got to use it on a guy at an Enterprise about 5 minutes from my house. When I travel by car for my job, I make a Saturday reservation, and the manager there was an asshole--he would call me end of business Friday to tell me he didn't have a car, so I sprung this on him and started going to a place 15 minutes away.
